What you’ll learn each semester

1

First Semester

  • Historical evolution of interior and furniture design
Knowing our history is essential to the foundation of our development. An extensive journey through the history of furniture design, from ancient times to the effervescent design of the 20th and 21st centuries, together with an exploration of interior design history that also focuses on the last century and a half.
  • Design of residential and hospitality spaces
The design of our immediate habitat comes above all else. The places in which we live and take shelter. We’ll explore residential design with a special focus on versatility, multifunctionality, new lifestyles, and the growing importance of offering impactful experiences in the hospitality industry.
  • Digital processing
An advanced subject on the digital processing of 3D images and the presentation of projects. Digital editing, rendering and realistic lighting are achieved through programs like Photoshop, VRay Lights, Mesh Light and sView.
  • Application of materials in interior design
When designing interior spaces, the materials we choose play a fundamental role in creating sensations, as their textures, colors, patterns, feel, and even smells impact us in different ways. You’ll identify the properties of both natural and unnatural materials, become familiar with paints and seamless finishes, learn how to select carpentry and metalwork, and explore new eco-friendly materials and biomaterials.
  • Advanced lighting design
The ability to design good lighting can be what sets a good designer apart from the rest. Through light, we create atmospheres, contrasts, sensations and mystery.
Lighting allows us to highlight, guide, point out, reveal and amaze. In this subject, you’ll discover the wonderful world of lighting. Its properties and parameters, lighting methods and types of luminaires. You’ll also learn calculation methods. Ultimately, you’ll design lighting projects that make a difference.

2

Second Semester

  • Design of public and ephemeral spaces
The demand for interior design in public spaces is growing. Businesses and offices are now aware of the role design plays in boosting sales or employee productivity. Even public authorities want to adapt their workplaces to a world with a new aesthetic. You’ll learn how to design these places for a large number of users. But life in the city is full of events, launches, fairs, promotional activities, festivals... Public spaces have taken on a new dimension, and so we also cover the importance of ephemeral installations in this subject.
  • Fundamentals of sustainability and biophilic design
There’s no turning back. Sustainability, energy saving, natural materials and bioclimatic design have been introduced into interior design projects, as society demands it more and more. This subject introduces you to methods of designing energy-efficient, bioclimatic spaces, the services to include for low energy consumption, and the materials that are most environmentally friendly. But we also emphasize a growing trend: biophilic design. This understands the human need for contact with nature, and therefore the need to introduce it into our everyday environment.
  • Building systems and services
As well as knowing about materials, a competent interior designer must be familiar with building systems in order to carry out their work. This subject deals with structures, exterior walls and interior partitions, false ceilings, staircases, and all the services required in a modern space, such as air conditioning, home automation, electricity, plumbing and sanitation.
  • External internship
Essential contact with real work, where you’ll gain practical experience working in multidisciplinary teams, facing challenges and difficulties, and performing various tasks such as project design and modelling, report writing, implementing building solutions and measuring spaces.
  • Master’s Thesis
A comprehensive project with the support of a tutor, in which you’ll have to conduct research, find references, develop creative ideas, draw up technical plans and reports, and defend your work in an oral presentation before a panel, developing all the skills you’ll need in your future career.
