Project description

RED ONE, is a comic book that I created for my ‘Believable Facts’ assignment. Obviously, the assignment only requires one strong image or a maximum of 4 images in series. I went a little overboard when coming up with this idea and now am sort of suffering with the weight that I have put onto my own shoulders. The thing is, the assignment calls for fiction and what is better fiction than to make up a story by yourself. This wasn’t the original idea, however. I initially thought of utilising my red ski suit, which was purchased on impulse for an extravagant Halloween party, to create a narrative of a spaceman out of their usual place. I thought it would be nice to get the spaceman to walk around the streets of Madrid — maybe recognisable locations or even just small alleyways. And, I happened to go to visit my friends over the weekend, and decided, what the hell, maybe I can just shoot my photography assignment there. I had a few ideas that I knew I wanted to execute:

I thought one night of shooting was enough, but we came back indoors and I sifted through the pictures and the story started broiling in my head. So, on a late, late Saturday night I storyboarded the entire thing.

The next day we finished shooting, and I spent way too long on the edit. First making a presentation with the pictures to get the creative juices flowing and then, over a week, sitting on Photoshop and making the comic.

So here we have it. RED ONE: a product of a week of hard work, sweat and cramped fingers.

ENJOY! :)

I need to thank Enrique ‘Kike’ Sebastian for donning the suit and walking around and posing for me for an upwards of three hours as I proceeded to find weird things for him to do. He’s a champ and I cannot have done it without him.

Gonzalo Feltrer, a gem of a man, was my moral support and lightman.

Mia Martin and Vivi Dipre helped me come up with ideas of how the story can fit together.

And obviously, the lovely cats — Destiny, Faunia, Diorita and Chin — who were so well mannered that they did not interrupt any of my shots.
