Students in the Graphic and Multimedia Design degree had the opportunity to experience a unique visit to the Imprenta Municipal and the Biblioteca Nacional. This excursion provided an excellent way to reinforce the knowledge gained in the Editorial Resources and Theory and History of Graphic Design courses. During the Editorial Resources class, students faced the exciting challenge of designing a bi-fold and a tri-fold brochure using Adobe InDesign. The objective was to create visually appealing and engaging pieces for the audience.

This group activity involved creating the branding for the opening of a new café in Paris, inspired by late 19th-century art and 20th-century avant-garde movements. The concept stems from an in-depth study of the Dada movement. Every detail, from the simplest to the most intricate, is informed by this artistic movement. For example, the name Kafe Efak references the Dadaist manifesto, which emphasizes disorder and poetry through the rearrangement of words and letters from existing texts. Following this idea, the “C” in “café” was replaced with a “K,” and the letters were rearranged. Additionally, the final “K” is rotated, becoming one of the most distinctive elements of the brand. The result is a distinctive and elegant label that communicates the café’s essence and quality, demonstrating key skills in branding, editorial design, and packaging within the field of graphic design.

This activity involved designing a display typeface for a section of an exhibition dedicated to the concept of utopia, taking Thomas More’s Utopia as a starting point. The goal was to visually interpret this concept through a typographic proposal that not only communicates but also expresses a personal vision of utopia. The process included a phase of conceptual research, the creation of a mood board, and the formal development of the typeface.
